D&AD represents the global creative, design and advertising communities. Since 1962, D&AD has set industry standards to educate and inspire the next generation of designers. Their annual awards are highly respected and regarded as a major event in the world of design and advertising. Bibliothèque were commissioned to design and art direct the 50th anniversary Awards ceremony and dinner.
The solution is conceptually based on the decisive nature of the judging criteria. There is no grey area, is the entry in, or is it out? Is it a ‘Yes’ or a ‘No’? Marketing, environmental and ambient executions expressed the concept as a typographic expression of the number of rejections, proportional to the acceptances.
This culminated in a collaboration with pioneering technologists the Rumpus Room, to create a title film and 30 category stings. This took the concept from a static typographic expression into an immersive, human centric video installation, playing out across 5 stadium-sized screens in the round at Camden’s Roundhouse.
