Ways of Being
Ways of Being (Advice for Artists by Artists), published by Laurence King, is a collection of quotes based on original interviews and archival material from an extensive roster of renowned artists.
The book aims to answer the key questions in any artist's life: is art a ‘career’, a vocation or something else entirely? Do you need a studio or a dealer, and how do you find one? Does financial success — or the lack of it — change you? Should you read the reviews?
The book is designed to resemble an instruction manual with each of the five chapters featuring two hand-cut thumb tabs, traditionally used for dictionaries. Working only with short texts, two colours and typefaces are used to create a visual hierarchy so as to allow easy navigation for the reader. The book also contains a number of bespoke infographics designed by Bibliothèque.
