Taberna do Mercado
Taberna do Mercado is a casual dining experience from critically acclaimed chef Nuno Mendes (of Viajante and Chiltern Firehouse). Offering a day in the life of a typical Portuguese Lisboeta, it opens daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, in Old Spitalfields Market.
Taberna were keen to reference the richness and heritage of their native Portugal without pastiche. Nuno’s food is a modern take on classic Portuguese dishes and inside the restaurant, traditional ‘Bacal-hau’ chairs sit next to a polished concrete bar.
To echo this ideology, we created an idiosyncratic word-mark; a contemporary take on references from signage in the city of Lisbon and old Portuguese type specimens.
The menus take a functional approach, utilising a slender format bound using a pattern hook, which allows for the menus to be hung on a mesh display as well as from the edge of the tables. This approach is echoed in the packaging utilising brown and marble papers and a branded tape.
