Old Spitalfields Market

Old Spitalfields Market’s new owners approached Bibliothèque to help them create a new vision for this iconic destination. A legacy of redevelopment and a lack of curatorial direction had resulted in a fragmented offer and a lack of identity. We undertook extensive research and worked with the client to establish a clear strategy for the asset.

Our strategy was to create a Modern Market; a new model inspired by the best traditional markets and curated spaces. We looked beyond traditional retail and entertainment to encompass creativity, participation and making.

This resulted in the creation of a positioning line, ‘Old Spitalfields Market, modern since 1887’ and a new visual language that clearly articulated the vision to existing and future tenants. We worked with the client to define and introduce a specific mix of tenants, whom were then targeted with bespoke communications.
